Who was Hector & Retirement

"Hector was purchased in Ross-on-Wye from Leanne. She was such an honest seller. No complaints. He was everything as described. The 90 minute journey was worth it! He came to me very fragile, boney, underdeveloped. This was not Leanne's doing this was just a typical youngster who was a late baby and was out feral almost untouched and completely unbacked.

Fast forward we did a lot of ground work, we slowly started to just lead him around and then came lunging to assess what we had to work with. He seemed bold, but quiet. So with that on came long lining. This was the best part of his backing we got into a routine asked for stops, starts, let him inspect anything spooky it was amazing. I and one other (mystery person, who knew nothing) took it upon ourselves to give it a go and then add tack. After a few weeks of longing, lunging and tack on, tack off eventually came the sitting! Roll on hours of hacking straight lines for the next year at a walk we had a backed Hector.

With that year later, we also strived to get Hector out as much as possible with small shows, fun rides and just arena hires. The more he did and continues to do the better. He has no recorded breeding. He stands at 16.2hh We have successfully schooled him in doing a brilliant intro test, western and some light show jumping with brilliant results at the hunter trials we have been to.

More will continue for him."

What is Wobblers.

Wobblers syndrome, also known as cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy (CVSM) or cervical vertebral malformation (CVM), is a neurological condition in horses that causes a loss of coordination and balance, often described as an unsteady or "wobbly" gait.
This condition arises from compression of the spinal cord in the neck, specifically within the cervical vertebrae, leading to a disruption of nerve signals between the brain and limbs.
Unfortunately in Hector this got worse with treatment, in fact it flared it up further and showed us he is a typical "wobbler" horse, with his age and severity of this, he was unsafe to ride and unsafe to himself to be just a field pet.
Because of this, with extensive vets involved and second opinions it was in best interest to have Hector humanely euthanized.
Thank you everyone who followed his journey, for now the chapter here on his page is closed. It was fun with him, he was such a positive boy and was very weird. But that made him who he is and or was.
Goodnight Hectorine Nectorine.
